Puerto Rico - an Update and Look Ahead 

After years of uncertainty, Puerto Rico may be able to exit bankruptcy later this year. Restructured General Obligation bonds are unlikely to be initially rated, but will definitely have an immediate impact the high yield municipal market. This session will provide a brief review of the credit’s decline, considering the circumstances and factors that led Congress to pass PROMESA and establish the oversight board. Panelists will discuss the oversight board’s accomplishments over the past few years and examine the progress the oversight board has made restructuring debt and implementing reforms in the face of political upheaval and disruptive natural disasters. A look ahead at future opportunities for investors will help inform how analysts should evaluate Puerto Rico’s credit quality, post-restructuring.
