American communities face an increasing number of extreme weather events. Climate change has accelerated in the past decade, from stronger hurricanes and coastal flooding to intense droughts and wildfires. Are traditional analytical approaches and tools up to the challenge of evaluating individual issuers’ resilience in the face of these threats? This discussion will bring first-hand perspectives from people on the front lines of helping cities, counties, towns, and other municipal issuers prepare for and respond to natural disasters. We will also take a clear-eyed assessment of what the municipal market needs to do prepare for what’s ahead.
