NFMA Advanced Webinar - Extreme Weather and Municipal Credit: Understanding the Risks and Opportunities
Thursday, October 21, 2021, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EDT
Category: Events

American communities face an increasing number of extreme weather events. Climate change has accelerated in the past decade, from stronger hurricanes and coastal flooding to intense droughts and wildfires. Are traditional analytical approaches and tools up to the challenge of evaluating individual issuers’ resilience in the face of these threats? This discussion will bring first-hand perspectives from people on the front lines of helping cities, counties, towns, and other municipal issuers prepare for and respond to natural disasters.  We will also take a clear-eyed assessment of what the municipal market needs to do prepare for what’s ahead.

Moderator:  Laura Levenstein, Chief Risk Officer, Build America Mutual Assurance Company (BAM)

Panelists:

  • Tom G. Doe, President and Managing Partner, Municipal Markets Analytics, Inc.
  • Robert J. Fenton, Regional Administrator for FEMA Region 9, Federal Emergency Management Agency
  • Amy Knowles, Chief Resiliency Officer, City of Miami Beach, FL
